NEW YORK – Today, Saritha Komatireddy’s campaign for Attorney General announced the endorsement of NHL star and former Buffalo Sabre and New York Islander Michael Peca and his wife Kristin.

As a federal prosecutor, Saritha prosecuted complex fraud and money laundering schemes, including one in which an investment advisor and his business partner stole millions of dollars over the span of a decade from numerous NHL players and other investors in New York (including the Peca’s). The presiding judge described the criminal conduct as “a massive multifaceted fraud scheme” that involved “a web of deception” and had “devastating financial and emotional impact on the victims….” The defendants were convicted after a ten-week jury trial at the federal courthouse on Long Island, and sentenced to 17 years’ and 10 years’ imprisonment, respectively.

In their endorsement, the Peca’s said, “Saritha was brilliant and tenacious as a prosecutor. We were fortunate to have witnessed her meticulous work first hand, as she spearheaded a case in which we were victims of massive fraud. Her methodical and detail-oriented approach helped us, and the many other victims, obtain justice.

Saritha prosecuted the case diligently, always remaining composed and unwavering in the pursuit of justice. She possesses the increasingly rare combination of legal expertise and high ethical standards.

Saritha exemplifies the fearless and principled type of Attorney General we so badly need in New York. Without a doubt she will be relentless in battling for a better and safer New York! Therefore, we wholeheartedly endorse Saritha to be the next Attorney General of New York.”

Following their endorsement, Saritha said, “As a prosecutor, my greatest privilege—and most serious responsibility—was to be there for victims in their moments of vulnerability and seek justice to attempt to right the wrongs they suffered. I was humbled every time victims placed their confidence in me, and today I am deeply touched by the Pecas urging that all New Yorkers place their confidence in me, to make New York safer. As Attorney General, I will bring the same relentless pursuit of justice to our state’s top Law Enforcement job. Right now, criminals in New York view the risk of arrest, conviction, and incarceration as low – when I’m AG, that will change.”

The Peca’s endorsement follows the endorsement of former New York Attorney General Dennis C. Vacco
