NEW YORK – Candidate for New York Attorney General Saritha Komatireddy is continuing to call attention to Attorney General Letitia James’ failure to hold taxpayer-funded homeless shelter nonprofits accountable, as highlighted in a new Fox News Digital report.

The report examines how New York City spent approximately $81,700 per unsheltered homeless person in Fiscal Year 2025, even as homelessness has continued to rise and years of investigations uncovered allegations including fraud, kickbacks, conflicts of interest, nepotism, excessive executive compensation, and weak oversight at taxpayer-funded shelter providers.

In the interview, Komatireddy states that the Attorney General’s Charities Bureau has failed to fulfill its responsibility to oversee nonprofit organizations receiving billions in taxpayer dollars and calls for comprehensive audits of every homeless shelter nonprofit receiving public funding.

“The person who should be asking those questions, the person who should be investigating, is the Attorney General. But Letitia James has totally failed New Yorkers when it comes to holding homeless shelter nonprofits accountable so that they actually help the homeless,” stated Komatireddy.

Komatireddy pledged that, as Attorney General, she would aggressively investigate fraud, protect taxpayer dollars, and ensure charitable organizations entrusted with serving New York’s most vulnerable populations are held to the highest standards of accountability.
