NEW YORK – “The MTA’s overcharging of subway riders warrants an AG investigation. It is the Attorney General’s responsibility to hold state agencies accountable and ensure they are not ripping off New Yorkers. When I am Attorney General, I will fulfill that responsibility, and every day New Yorkers will have a direct line to me to resolve their concerns.

This is one more example of NY’s crime tax. The MTA loses $1B per year because the AG doesn’t enforce the fare evasion laws. So the New Yorkers who follow the rules are paying for the New Yorkers who don’t. Fares are at an all-time high of $3 per ride, the MTA is planning to raise them further, and now passengers allege that the MTA is stealing from riders and hoping that the riders don’t notice.

We need an AG who will hold criminals and state agencies accountable, and who will protect innocent New Yorkers. When we do that, we will make New York safer and less expensive.”
