NEW YORK – Today, Saritha Komatireddy’s campaign for Attorney General announced the endorsement of NHL star Bryan Berard, who played for the New York Islanders and New York Rangers.
In his endorsement, Berard said, “I’m proud to endorse Saritha for Attorney General of New York. I met Saritha more than a decade ago when she led a case involving massive fraud that affected me and many others. After dealing with years of deceit from bad actors, we found hope in Saritha and her team, who worked tirelessly to obtain justice in our case. Saritha was patient enough to listen and smart enough to understand. She proved herself to be an outstanding and determined prosecutor, who embodies the courageous and principled leadership New York needs. I trust Saritha to restore law and order to New York and keep New Yorkers safe.”
As a federal prosecutor, Saritha prosecuted complex fraud and money laundering schemes, including one in which an investment advisor and his business partner stole millions of dollars over the span of a decade from numerous NHL players and other investors in New York. After a ten-week jury trial at the federal courthouse on Long Island, the defendants were convicted and sentenced to 17 years’ and 10 years’ imprisonment, respectively.
Following this endorsement, Komatireddy said, “While serving as a prosecutor, my greatest honor was standing with victims and fighting to deliver justice for the harm they endured. As the First Overall Pick in the 1995 NHL Draft and a U.S. Olympian, Bryan knows excellence and does not suffer fools. I’m honored to receive Bryan’s endorsement in my race for New York Attorney General, and when I’m elected, I will restore accountability, protect victims, and ensure that those who break the law face real and lasting consequences.”
Berard’s endorsement follows the endorsement of Maggie’s List, Former U.S. Representative John Faso (NY-19), NHL Star Michael Peca, and his wife Kristin, as well as former New York Attorney General Dennis C. Vacco.
