Every day we hear a new story about a career criminal out on the street victimizing innocent New Yorkers for the 20th time, and the Attorney General never shares a single thought about New York’s lax catch and release policies.
Meanwhile, she throws the absolute book at a cop who made a split-second decision to stop a cocaine dealer driving towards civilians and fellow officers.
The truth is, in today’s New York, a Hispanic man who is a violent criminal and here illegally would be treated with a lighter hand than a Hispanic man like Erik Duran, the son of Ecuadorian immigrants, who grew up in the Bronx and tried to do the right thing by signing up to be a cop to help his community.
This reflects a clear anti-law-enforcement bias. It’s wrong. And it makes New York less safe.
We have an Attorney General who is trying to nail a cop because he’s a cop. That kind of hatred and bias has no place in the law.
Letitia James spends more time targeting cops than criminals. When I’m Attorney General, I’ll turn that around. I’ll support our cops and relentlessly pursue career criminals.
