“Beleaguered New York State taxpayers are robbed of billions of dollars every year through endemic fraud and corruption, yet those in charge would rather raise taxes on New Yorkers again than crack down on the malfeasance and recover the stolen funds.
Attorney General Letitia James is only making it worse. For seven years, James has used our taxpayer money to chase headlines and settle political scores, but those suits have done nothing to reduce the cost of living for New Yorkers or make us safer. Meanwhile, crime, fraud, and homelessness have skyrocketed, and they have taken a toll on New Yorkers’ wallets.
New York went from an average of 100 fraud convictions per year to nine per year under James’s watch, and is now ranked 51st in the country in Medicaid fraud indictments and convictions. We spend twice as much on Medicaid per resident than New Jersey — a difference of $40 billion — and no one in our state government can explain why. Repeat offenders commit crimes without consequence under the catch-and-release bail laws James supports: car thefts have doubled, driving up the cost of insurance; retail theft is rampant, driving up the cost of groceries; and we lose a billion dollars each year to fare evasion. James’s failure to hold state agencies and homeless shelters accountable for their use of taxpayer funds, and unwillingness to get the drug addicted and mentally ill off our streets and into residential treatment, forces counties across New York to raise taxes to put the homeless in hotels, which is not a solution. It all adds up to an invisible crime tax that New Yorkers are paying on top of everything else.
James will again look away as Socialist New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani agitates for massive new tax hikes throughout the state – income tax hikes that New Yorkers can’t afford and property tax hikes that threaten to take the American Dream away from them.
I will have a distinctly different approach as Attorney General. I will prosecute crime and fraud, just like I did as a federal prosecutor. If you steal from taxpayers, you will be arrested and prosecuted, and what was stolen will be returned to the victims — the taxpayers. I will hold state agencies and nonprofits accountable to ensure the taxpayer money we pay them produces results, not kickbacks. The billions of dollars we recover from returning law, order, and accountability to New York will eviscerate any argument for tax hikes and do more to help New Yorkers than government handouts. Under Letitia James, New Yorkers are paying a crime tax. When I’m Attorney General, they’ll get a tax refund.”
