Saritha is the only prosecutor running for Attorney General at a moment when safety is a top concern for New Yorkers

New York, NY — Today, former Assistant U.S. Attorney Saritha Komatireddy announced her campaign for New York Attorney General, to bring the safety of New Yorkers to the forefront of the Attorney General’s mission.

I’m running for Attorney General because we need a prosecutor in charge, focused on New York and focused on safety,” said Saritha.

She continued, “I’ve spent over a decade in the U.S. Attorney’s Office prosecuting the worst of the worst. Terrorists, murderers, fraudsters, and hackers. Now, I want to get the Attorney General’s office back to basics – protecting New Yorkers and locking up criminals. Under Letitia James, the AG’s office has become preoccupied with partisan vendettas and has lost sight of what matters most to New Yorkers.

New Yorkers feel less safe, and the facts confirm their feelings. Under Letitia James, crime is up 26%, drug deaths are up 63%.

Saritha concluded, “Here’s the bottom line – if New York isn’t safe, nothing else matters. If elected, I’ll focus all my energy on the safety of the people of New York – from Bethpage to Buffalo, Staten Island to Saratoga Springs, the people of the Empire State will be able to trust that they have an Attorney General focused on keeping them safe.”

Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said, “I’m glad that Saritha has decided to return to public service by running for New York State Attorney General.

We need public servants with the abilities, ethics, and experience of Saritha. Even among the multitude of great attorneys at the Department of Justice, she stood apart as a federal prosecutor. Only an elite few could ever match her litany of professional accomplishments.

Saritha is a nationally respected former federal prosecutor and national security leader who has spent her career defending New York and America from terrorism, cyberattacks, drug cartels, and corruption. She held senior roles in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, prosecuting major cases against members of Al Qaeda, ISIS, the Sinaloa Cartel, and other international criminal organizations. Her cases have impacted individuals and communities across New York State, from New York City and Long Island to Buffalo and Rochester. She also served as Chief of Staff of the Drug Enforcement Administration, a 10,000-person global law enforcement agency, and was nominated to serve as a federal judge by President Trump in 2020. A recipient of multiple Attorney General’s Awards, a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, and a former clerk to the Honorable Brett M. Kavanaugh, Saritha now works in private practice.

Video Transcript:
My first week in college, terrorists attacked New York.

Nine Eleven changed my mission in life. I chose law school to prosecute terrorists – to protect New York and America.

My name is Saritha Komatireddy. I’m a federal prosecutor. I was chief of staff of the DEA. And I was nominated to be a judge by President Trump.

Prosecuting criminals is what I’m good at. It’s my life’s work.

This Al-Qaeda operative tried to bomb a US military base. He was sentenced to 45 years.

A sniper for ISIS – life in prison.

A Sinaloa Cartel front man. Thirty-eight years.

I’m Saritha. I’m the only prosecutor running for Attorney General.

Letitia James is not. She’s an incompetent politician. She’s only focused herself and political enemies. How does that help us?

We know we’re less safe, we can feel it. When I walk my kids to school, I hold their hands a little tighter now…everyone does.

It’s not just a feeling. Under Letitia James, crime in New York State is up 26 percent, drug deaths – 63 percent.

Now, they want to experiment with socialism. But here’s the thing – we CANNOT experiment with safety. Someone has to step up. I am and I need you to step up too.

If New York isn’t safe, nothing else matters.

The days of criminals not being arrested, not being charged, and not being prosecuted will be over.

New York is the greatest place in the world. It should be the safest.

Let’s make it that way.
