NEW YORK, NY – Surrounded by crime victims, elected officials, candidates, law enforcement leaders, parents, and community leaders from across New York, New York Attorney General candidate Saritha Komatireddy today unveiled her Day One Public Safety Agenda, calling for an immediate return to enforcing the law, supporting police, prosecuting repeat offenders, and putting victims back at the center of New York’s justice system.

The event came just one week after New York City’s Democratic primaries, which Komatireddy said underscored how far left the city’s political leadership has shifted on public safety. Standing on the steps of City Hall, she argued that while some candidates continue to embrace policies that diminish the role of law enforcement and weaken accountability, New Yorkers are demanding something much simpler:
Just fight crime.
“For too long, New Yorkers have watched public safety take a back seat to politics,” said Komatireddy. “Whether you call it defunding the police, deprioritizing enforcement, or getting the basics of public safety wrong, the result has been the same: too many victims and too many repeat offenders. Today, I’m focused on the future. My Day One Agenda is a commitment to every New Yorker that, as Attorney General, I will fight crime, stand with law enforcement, protect victims, and restore confidence in our justice system.”
Komatireddy’s Day One Public Safety Agenda includes:
- Restructure the AG’s office by assigning 350 AAGs — half the office — to prosecute crime;
- Prosecute crimes ignored by progressive DAs like Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg;
- Send attorneys to serve as Special ADAs in DAs’ offices that request support;
- Launch a Transit Crime Strike Force to take back our subways and buses;
- Crack down on car theft and fraud driving up insurance premiums;
- Shut down illegal drug injection sites;
- Audit and investigate every homeless shelter for safety, effectiveness, and misuse of funds;
- Put the $3B in opioid settlement money where it belongs: free residential mental health care and drug treatment to every New Yorker who needs it;
- Implement safe buffer zones to protect schools and houses of worship;
- Expand criminal and civil investigations to aggressively pursue Medicaid fraud and recover $1B for taxpayers;
- Partner with federal authorities to prosecute terrorism;
Komatireddy was joined by a broad coalition of supporters, including National Victims Rights Advocate Madeline Brame, New York State Senator Steve Chan, New York State Assemblyman Michael Novakhov, candidates, law enforcement leaders, community advocates, parents, and residents from across New York who said the state’s Attorney General should return its focus to fighting crime and protecting New Yorkers.
“The people standing with me today represent every corner of New York,” Komatireddy said. “Victims. Parents. Police officers. Community leaders. Elected officials. Families from across our state are united because this shouldn’t be a partisan issue. Every New Yorker deserves to feel safe.”
She concluded by reiterating the central message of her campaign:
“Fight crime. Back the police. Protect victims. That’s exactly what I’ll do on Day One.”
